Hey there. I’m Ashton, also known as “the shepherd boy.”
My father is a businessman who encouraged me to follow my dreams, and my great-grandfather was a farmer. My family often visited his farm when I was younger, where we shared a lot of fond memories and experiences together. There’s something so refreshing and enjoyable about being outdoors, performing manual labor, tending to livestock and watching them thrive.
Those experiences started the dream that would eventually grow into the land where Shepherd Boy Farms began.
My brother and I started experimenting with various facets of agriculture in 2012, including saw-milling, farming beef cows, and harvesting trees. Eventually, I started to think about goats. I acquired my first goat not long after and never looked back. Shortly thereafter, I began researching, meeting goat farmers, and really exploring the concept of raising goats to provide a way for people who are searching for “goat meat near me,” to buy it online.
Our goats are grass fed and pasture-raised on our Indiana farm—a thriving and relaxed outdoor environment that is not tainted with herbicides or pesticides. Our farming employs productive, diverse, sustainable practices that are geared toward the preservation of our land and natural resources.
We are committed to raising goats as sustainably and humanely as possible, and their quality of life is our top priority. Our animals are free to roam in the sunshine and open air, surrounded by the company of their own species—just the way nature intended. They are not fed grain or animal byproducts, nor administered hormones or antibiotics. When you buy goat meat from Shepherd Boy Farms, you can rest assured that it’s healthy, local, and fresh.
Our goats are raised to an ideal weight of 70-80 pounds, with a hanging weight of 35 pounds, for maximum tenderness and best taste. As soon as you place an order, we procure a goat in this age range (ideally straight from our pastures, if available), package the meat, and ship it to you as quickly as possible. Our grass fed goat meat is local—straight from farm to table—making it some of the freshest you can buy in the U.S. today.
With the popularity of goat meat steadily rising, our small farm may sometimes be unable to meet the demands of consumers. In that case, we’ll do our best to source the meat from a nearby farm for maximum freshness and highest quality. Regardless of source, it will always be USDA, Halal certified (upon request), local, and pasture-raised.
