Wisconsin state is one of largest and most strategic states in the United States. It is known because of its large dairy farms. It has some of the largest dairy farms is the States. However, three years ago, the town of Calumet in Wisconsin made history by being home to the largest dairy goat farms in the United States. As of the year 2016, the number of licensed dairy goat farms had reached a record-high figure of 267. The population of dairy goat has increased by a whopping seventy percent in the same period. For instance, a farm by the name Drumlin Dairy is home to nine thousand dairy goats. This farm sits on a thirty-five acre piece of land. The capacity of Chilton dairy was increased from 1,500 dairy goats to a massive 7,600 goats. These two examples highlight how people have embraced dairy goat farming in the United States.
Wisconsin State is followed closely by California State and these two mark the major states in the United States specialising in dairy goat farming. The fact that the changes have been embraced by the community only serves to highlight the fact that dairy farming has taken a new dimension. This does not necessarily mean that the dairy cow industry gets affected in a major way. Even when everything has been quite smooth, some people within the society have expressed their fears over the large farm sizes and their possible implications on the environment. These concerns are genuine but looking at the way the dairy goat industry has flourished, it is easy to see that the merits outweigh the demerits and by large. In addition to the concerned people in the society, farmers and experts alike have expressed their concerns over what they term to be expected future problem. The outbreak of a major disease can be quite fatal to the goats due to their proximity. Expansion can also pose problems to the farmers since the dairy farms have taken up a lot of space. All in all, Wisconsin continues to be a key industry player in the dairy farming sector, be it dairy goats or dairy cows.
